For those who played EQ (or still do - I visit back there on occasion):
We are starting to get to the stage when many requests for development are met with the "don't have dev resources to spare to address it" comments (housing, North Downs revamp etc).
Lots of semi-empty zones.
Hard to get groups in older content.
People want to skip quickly to the end with their alts - leveling speed is increased even for those who don't want it.
Posts about sub numbers debated endlessly - is this the end?
The positive I take from this is that EQ still limps along regardless, and the few remaining devs have even managed to come up with some quite nice content (check out the mercenaries they brought in a while back - most EQ folk seem to think they work pretty well).
We are also about to hit 3 years and still seeing updates - which is great. I went into this hoping the game would run 5 years or more - still seem on track.
