Favorite and Least Favorite Zones (and why)
10-02-25

So what are your favorite and least favorite zones in LOTRO and why? I was reading another thread where people were discussing it, but it was really off topic for the thread. So I thought it might be fun to discuss it here.

Try to give the why behind your answers if you can. It will be interesting to see how everyone's tastes are slightly different.

Here are my answers, in no particular order. (Note: I probably have too many likes)

Favorite zones:

The Shire: I love the way it's designed, I enjoyed the Shire quests, and the music is top notch. Even after 3 years I still like going back and just poking around there and just riding my horse around.

Breeland: Mainly I like the wide variety of quests here... although it is nice looking (The Shire is nicer though). My favorite area in Breeland is the Old Forest and Barrows. Although I kind of like that "unused" region up in the North of Breeland too.

The Trollshaws: The music wins this one for me. I could ride around the Trollshaws for hours just collecting ore because it is so hauntingly beautiful. It is like a de-stress zone. Seriously, Elrond should open up a spa or something... offer hot rock massages, facials, mud baths...

Eregion: I like the lay of the land and the ruins and the fact that the region is so diverse. Again, interesting music (not as lovely as Trollshaws, but still compelling).

Lothlorian: I actually like the non-combat oriented quests. And I love riding my horse around with all those lovely golden trees and listening to the uplifting music. This is almost like Trollshaws part 2 for me .

Misty Mountains: I just think it's pretty with all the snow. And I love the sound of running though the snow or riding a horse on the snow. But one of my favorite pre-MoM activities was shard hunting here (and trying to beat that drake solo). I just had a blast hunting here. And then there is Helegrod .

Drownholt: It's a cool swamp with awesome trees and will-o-wisps (or whatever they are called in game again... I can never remember). Seriously. I love it for some reason. The music is really catchy (and fitting) and the quests were a lot fun too.

Dourstocks: It reminds me of Ravenloft  . That is all (maybe).

Least favorite zones:

Angmar: It's just so gray and depressing. And gray. It seems to suck the soul out of you. Did I mention it's depressing too? The saving grace, it has CD/Uru and the Rift--some of my all time favorite places. I really wish I had done GA more often though (seemed harder to get groups for that). By the way... this place is gray.

The Great Delving: I got lost. A lot. And fell off cliffs. A lot. I didn't really seem to like the quests there either. I just ended up frustrated.

Shuttledells: I get turned around and I have to fight all the time. And there are big, creepy spiders there. I just want out every time I am there.

The Foundations of Stone: I got lost and killed a lot. After I finished quests I almost never came back here (except to be summoned to DN... which I enjoyed. I don't count DN as part of this place). Although it had it's own kind of creepy beauty. I give it that.

Honorable Mention:

Evendim: It's beautiful and the runes are magnificent. But I kind of missed out on questing in the region at level, so that kind of spoiled it for me. I really enjoyed Annuminus though. There is a reason I wear the Annuminus armor cosmetically and have the Annnuminus pony. Ironically, the lake swims usually never bothered me.

Ettenmoors: It's a nice diverse area and fun to explore when you aren't looking over your shoulder every 2 seconds
